SCHOOL & PTO NEWS

A MESSAGE FROM RUTH FINN OSHIN, WIS PTO PRESIDENT

The WIS Nominating Committee is up and running so please go to www.wis-pto.org to sign up for a 2012-2013 board position.  Thanks to Jennifer Socha for chairing this very important committee.  Remember, as your children get older, there are less opportunities to go into the classroom so taking on a PTO board position is a great way to stay involved at school.  I am also told (but thankfully not there yet) that older children may not want you around at all so volunteering at WIS could be the end of the road for many of us.  Are you getting out your tissues yet?

Don't forget to sign up for family fun bingo on February 6th.  We can accommodate the first 100 children and we are close to being sold out.

Warm Regards,
Ruth Oshin

2012-2013 WIS PTO BOARD
Calling all 3rd and 4th grade parents!  The WIS Nominating Committee is beginning the process of finding passionate volunteers to fill all of our board positions for the 2012-2013 school year.  Remember, as your children get older, there are a lot less opportunities to go into the classroom so taking on a PTO board position is a great way to stay involved at school.

A description of each position can be found on the WIS PTO website, www.wis-pto.orgClick here to find the nominating sign up form.  The proposed slate of board members will be presented at the March General meeting and voted on in April.

If you have an interest in a WIS PTO board position but not sure which one or have any questions regarding the board, feel free to email me at .

PHOTOS NEEDED FOR THE WIS YEARBOOK
Hello WIS Parents!   Yearbook is in full swing and our committee is busy out there grabbing great pictures for a great yearbook!  BUT we always want your pictures!!  If you have taken some pictures of a WIS event, we would love to use them for the yearbook.  There are several ways to get pictures to us (email, CD, thumb drive…) but also this year we have set up a WIS Yearbook Website with Shutterfly as an easy, secure way to upload pictures for the yearbook.  If you are interested, all you have to do is send an email to   and I will send you the link and password to the site.  No fuss with copying to a CD, finding someone to give it too… just a click of a button and your pictures can be used for the yearbook!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the above email!

Thank you – our yearbook would not be great without your pictures!!

WESTON YOUTH FOOTBALL (GRADES 1-8)
Joe Lato, coach of the Weston High School football team, will host a town hall meeting on Wednesday, January 25, to discuss his plans for bringing Weston youth football and cheerleading back to Weston.  The meeting will be held at 7:00PM at the Weston High School cafeteria.  All Weston residents with an interest in the town’s youth-to-varsity football and cheerleading programs are encouraged to attend.

At the meeting, Lato will present his vision for a Junior Trojan Football program based in Weston.

Designed for students in grades 1 through 8, the Junior program would serve as the feeder program for the high school Trojans, focused on developing and mastering the fundamentals of the game, teamwork and safety.  Currently, the only options available for Weston youths are programs that serve other area high schools, with football practices conducted in other towns.

If you have something for The WhIStle please email your submission (in Word format or PDF) to   Submissions should be relevant to WIS or the Town of Weston (i.e., town sports programs, Weston community events or outside sports programs (for students) taking place in the Town of Weston).  If there is any question regarding the relevance of a submission, final approval will be determined by The WhIStle editor and/or the WIS PTO President.  Submission deadline is Wednesday – The WhIStle publishes on Friday!
